Seniors’ last day to return library materials to the Learning Commons is Friday, May 19.
Class of 2017 – Borrowed Laptops due by Thursday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m! If your student is borrowing a laptop from CCHS, they need to return their laptop, protective case, and charger by Thursday, May 25 at 3:00 p.m. They can return their equipment in one of their Senior classrooms or the Learning Commons. They will need to fill out a short form to accompany the laptop. Equipment that is not returned on time will create charges to their student account. These charges must be cleared in order to participate in their graduation ceremony!

The Class Officers, Advisors and Parent Reps have been diligently planning fun and diverse ways for the class celebrate the end of high school in the days leading up to Graduation. Want to know what it’s like to run a 4 minute mile? On Wendesday 5/31 at 7pm, four elite runners will be speaking in the Learning Commons on the eve of the Martinez Classic: Kyle Merber (Personal best of 3:52.22 in the mile, World Relay Record-holder and World champion.); Donn Cabral (8x NCAA all-American, NCAA record-holder and 2x US Olympian); Nicole Tully (2015 USATF Champion in the 5000m); Cecelia Barowski: (personal best of 2:01.52 in the 800m).
Gaining Ground, a non-profit organic farm in Concord, is looking for two rising seniors to serve as Junior Board Members for the 2017-18 academic year. Candidates should have an interest in sustainable agriculture and hunger relief. Responsibilities include attending monthly board meetings, volunteering at events and sharing insights and opinions with the Board. Birthday Wishes Drive – Birthday Wishes is an organization that provides birthday parties for homeless children in the Boston area. Ends today May 17. Boxes will be located outside the learning commons. Recommended donations: boxed cake mix, canned frosting, disposable cake pans, cups, candles, tablecloths, juice boxes, mini water bottles, plates, napkins, spoons, forks, party hats, masks,decorations (streamers, balloons and birthday banners).
We want Teens and Youth involved in Planning the Future of Concord! Concord is embarking on “Envision Concord”- its town-wide comprehensive plan that will look forward to 2030 to understand the challenges faced by the community, as well as opportunities to vision for a strong future. It is important that Concord teens, youth, and families are heard, but typically, these groups tend to be very busy and less likely to engage in the planning process. We are looking for individuals who live in Concord and may wish to be involved for community service credit, teen organizations that may be interested as part of their mission or a special project, or other ways as well. Are you interested in trying out for the CCHS Cheerleading? Come to a clinic on May 18, 6-8 PM in the Multi Purpose Room 104 and see what it takes to be part of this competitive fall team, tryouts will be in early June. Cheerleading is coed and all are welcome to attend these free clinics.
CCHS Band and Orchestra Pops Concert This year the Bands and Orchestra is taking their annual POPS Concert outdoors to the amphitheater on Friday, May 19 at 7pm. (“Pops on the Patio”) The concert will feature the Repertory Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra and Concert Band, culminating with a special presentation by our graduating seniors. Bring the family and enjoy some snacks/refreshments and some music from Star Trek, West Side Story, The Beatles, James Bond and more! Tickets are $10 at the door.

Lace up your running shoes because it’s time for the 9th Annual Adrian Martinez Classic on Thursday, June 1 at Emerson Field in Concord. Run the 1-mile race in your age category, try the first-timer’s mile if you haven’t run a competitive mile before, gather a team for the friends & family 4 x 400 relay, or just cheer on the other racers. Community races for runners of all abilities start at 4:30 and elite races featuring several Olympic medalists and national record-holders start at 6:30. All funds raised through on-site donations, race entry fees, and sponsorship are split between the Adrian Martinez Scholarship Fund, which supports the college aspirations of CCHS students, and the CCHS Track & Field/Cross Country Program. It’s almost the end of the school year! Please donate any unused school or craft supplies, or new or gently used children’s books in the collection will continue until June 16. The Water Challenge is a two week long commitment to drink only water and save money on other drinks like coffee, tea, soda, or juice. The challenge goes from May 8-22. The money saved will then be donated to The Water Project to fund the organization to provide clean water to people in need. A donation of just $23 will allow one person to access drinking water. Honor your grad, teacher, or coach! The three major phases of CC at Play’s fields renovation project at CCHS are complete and all our spring and fall sports are benefiting: baseball, softball, lacrosse, cross country, track & field, soccer, football, and field hockey. The project has been a huge success. This summer, CC at Play will put finishing touches onto the project. They plan to build a maintenance building, add way finding signage, and install landscaping at the entrances. To fund this final phase of work, they are selling engraved bricks that will pave the area around the new flagpole in the stadium. These bricks are a great way to honor a graduate, celebrate a team, thank a coach or teacher, or celebrate an alum. Bricks can be purchased at www.CCatPlay.org. Mediation and Facilitated Team Meetings New Date! Thursday, May 25 7:00-8:30pm CCHS Room, 206, Concord Presenter Mryto Flessas, Bureau of Special Education Appeals (BSEA). Please join us for a presentation on Special Education Mediation and facilitated IEP Team Meetings by Myrto Flessas from the Bureau of Special Education Appeals (BSEA). A voluntary and confidential dispute settlement process, mediation sessions are conducted by BSEA mediators at no charge to the participants. Ms. Flessas will cover how and when to request a mediation as well as how to prepare for and what to expect from mediation at the BSEA. The presentation and Q&A will take place from 7-8:30pm. Milldam Nursery School will be hosting the 12th Annual Ducky Race & Fair on Saturday, June 3 at Emerson Playground. We are looking for CCHS students to volunteer for community service between the hours of 9:30 AM-12:30 PM. The event features the “Lucky Duck” raffle, a petting zoo, face painting and more. The Willard Carnival will be held on Sunday, June 4 this year. Willard family and friends are really looking forward to playing over 30 games, enjoying snacks, a fabulous cake walk, and so much more! Each year we look forward to working with CCHS volunteers!! This year we need help with set up, running the booths and games, and breaking down the event. It is a great way to support the community and of course we are more than happy to sign off on any volunteer hours needed for school.
