Freshman English

The 9th Grade English program concentrates on developing skills in written expression, critical thinking, and literary analysis using poetry, drama, fiction, and nonfiction.  This year together we will read Kindred by Octavia Butler, American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang, Antigone by Sophocles, Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Additionally, students will study Greek & Latin roots and related vocabulary; they will read a narrative work of nonfiction of their choosing, and study and review a recent documentary film.
