Senior Honors English

In this intensive literature course, students will consider the works in conjunction with pertinent critical material and historical and social backgrounds. Reading assignments are challenging and student’s writing should demonstrate thinking beyond the scope of class discussion, present a tightly focused argument, and be not only correct but also clear and sophisticated in style. Students are expected work independently and construct clear, useful class notes based on reading and discussion. Texts will include Sonny's Blues, Passing, Hamlet, The Wall, The Stranger, and Beloved.

All seniors will complete a 8-10 page Senior Essay Project as well as participate in a series of Socratic Seminars designed to help students practice their ability to listen closely, think critically, and articulate their own thoughts.
