Freshman English

Books

Welcome to Freshman English!

In this class, we will explore three different aspects of what it means to be human: Justice, Loyalty, and Identity. We’ll use novels, plays, and personal essays to build our understanding of these topics, and then we’ll experiment with our own writing, both creative and expository.

I ask you to bring your curiosity, your willingness to ask difficult questions, and your sense of humor to class every day. If you do, we are guaranteed to have a successful year!

This year’s texts include:

Justice:

  • Antigone
  • To Kill a Mockingbird
  • Raisin in the Sun

Identity:

  • American Born Chinese
  • Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Loyalty:

  • Kindred
  • Romeo & Juliet
