Sophomore Honors English

The primary focus of Sophomore Year is analytical writing. The class will begin with shorter writing assignments to build skills in paragraph and thesis development, style, and analysis. We will then move on to longer, more sophisticated pieces, culminating in a research paper. The majority of assignments will ask you to respond to literature; therefore, how carefully you read will influence how well you write. Vocabulary and grammar will be studied in conjunction with the literature.

Texts: The works we will be reading include Homegoing, Ethan Frome, My Antonia, Song of Solomon, Great Gatsby, The Crucible, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, and a selection of short stories and poems.
