Literature in Contemporary Society

This course is designed to improve student competence and confidence in understanding and interpreting literature.  Students read novels, essays, short stories, and poetry written by a variety of authors.  As students study the literature, they apply the texts to contemporary issues and make connections to contemporary society.  In addition, students are asked to write in response to what they have read.  Writing assignments range from quizzes, tests, and essays to journal entries and poems.
