At this level, students have the opportunity to develop their communicative skills in a cultural context. They acquire and expand their knowledge of the language by engaging in guided conversations, by listening to spoken language, by reading authentic materials, and by writing.  In order to perform these functions, students learn the appropriate grammatical structures. Language skills and cultural knowledge are enhanced by the use of the Internet and audio and visual programs. Varied methods such as group work, paired work, and direct instruction are used to help all students develop communicative proficiency.  Evaluation will be based on work in the classroom and language lab; projects; homework; and performance on oral, aural and written tasks.
